Professor Noel Scott is an internationally renowned scholar in tourism studies, recognised for his pioneering contributions to destination management, tourism marketing, and the integration of cognitive psychology into tourism experience research. He holds a PhD in tourism and has held senior academic positions across leading universities in Australia and Asia before joining the Dili Institute of Technology as a Permanent Full Professor. Professor Scott’s body of work spans over decades and demonstrates a consistent focus on the intersection of tourism experience design and cognitive psychology. His research advances understanding of how emotional arousal, storytelling, novelty, and sensory stimuli shape memorable tourism experiences and influence destination performance. He has authored and co-authored numerous books and journal articles, collaborating with leading scholars and international organisations, including the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Among his most cited works are The Elephant Tourism Business (2021) and Cognitive Psychology and Tourism (2024), both of which provide deep insights into the behavioural dimensions of tourism. Professor Scott has also contributed to UNWTO’s global report on sustainable wildlife tourism, underscoring his engagement with international policymaking in sustainable tourism.

As an active researcher, Professor Scott continues to publish widely in high- impact journals indexed in Scopus and collaborates with researchers across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. His recent works address contemporary issues such as green intellectual capital, residents’ attitudes toward tourism development, augmented reality in heritage sites, and food and wine heritage in tourism experiences.

At the Dili Institute of Technology, Professor Scott plays a strategic role in building the PhD programme’s international standing, embedding cutting-edge tourism research within doctoral training, and mentoring candidates in tourism, hospitality, and service experience studies. His involvement strengthens DIT’s mission to produce doctoral graduates who are globally connected and locally impactful.
